Roland Corporation is a Japanese manufacturer of electronic musical instruments, founded in Osaka in 1972 and known for synthesisers, drum machines, and effects units that shaped the sound of popular music across five decades. The company was a co-developer of the MIDI standard and its instruments, including the TR-808 drum machine and Jupiter synthesiser series, are used across electronic music, hip hop, and pop.
