Irmin Schmidt is a German composer and keyboardist who co-founded the krautrock band Can in Cologne in 1968, beginning a career rooted in experimental rock, electronic and avant-garde music. Trained in classical composition, he integrated avant-garde techniques, tape editing and electronic textures into improvisational rock frameworks and later moved into film scores and contemporary composition, contributing to the broader krautrock and experimental music movements.
