G Funk
G-Funk shuffled onto the scene in the early 1990s in California, where sunny vibes met smooth, laid-back grooves, proving that sometimes it's quite alright to rap about life whilst lounging by the pool. Characterised by its use of funk samples, synthesised melodies, and deep bass lines, it sounds as if a classic 70s disco party collided with a 90s hip hop block party, and everyone was far too chill to care who won. Ironically, despite its relaxed charm, the genre played a pivotal role in popularising West Coast hip hop and provided the soundtrack for many an unlikely late-night snack run.
