Ice Cube is an American rapper, actor and filmmaker from Los Angeles, California, who began his music career in the late 1980s as a member of the group N.W.A and launched a solo career in the early 1990s, working primarily within hip hop and gangsta rap on the West Coast scene. His music is characterised by confrontational lyricism addressing race, poverty and policing, incorporating funk and G-funk production elements, and he later broadened his career into film and other media while continuing to engage with social and cultural themes.
