Dame Janet Baker

Dame Janet Baker is an English mezzo-soprano from Yorkshire who began her professional singing career in the 1950s, performing in opera, oratorio and song. Her repertoire emphasised Baroque as well as 19th- and 20th-century works, with a strong interest in English song and continental lieder, and she contributed extensively to concert, operatic and recording projects that broadened public access to these pieces.
