A Child of Our Time is an oratorio by English composer Michael Tippett, composed between 1939 and 1941 and first performed in 1944. The work combines elements of the Baroque oratorio tradition with twentieth-century harmonic language and references to African-American spirituals, using choral and orchestral forces to address themes of oppression and collective conscience and marking Tippett's emergence in mid-20th-century British music.
