The Dream of Gerontius is an oratorio by English composer Edward Elgar, first performed in 1900. A large-scale choral and orchestral work rooted in the late-Romantic idiom with rich harmonies, expressive orchestration and dramatic choral writing, it marked a major step in Elgar's career as his first substantial sacred choral composition and influenced the development of British choral repertoire in the early 20th century.
