Elijah is an oratorio by German composer Felix Mendelssohn, first performed in 1846. The work employs Romantic-era choral and orchestral forces with extensive ensemble and solo passages, reflecting Mendelssohn's synthesis of Baroque influence and 19th-century expressive language and occupying an important place among his large-scale sacred compositions and in the choral repertoire of the period.
