Marc Bolan was an English singer-songwriter and guitarist from Hackney, London, who began his career in the late 1960s leading the folk-psych duo Tyrannosaurus Rex before fronting the glam rock band T. Rex. His music evolved from acoustic folk and psychedelic roots into concise, electric, riff-driven glam rock, characterised by poetic, whimsical lyrics and a flamboyant stage persona that played a prominent role in early 1970s British pop culture.
