T. Rex are an English rock band formed in London in 1967, originally performing under the name Tyrannosaurus Rex as a psychedelic folk outfit before shortening their name and shifting toward electric glam rock. Their music evolved from acoustic, mystical folk to concise, hook-driven electric pop-rock with a more flamboyant visual presentation, and this early 1970s phase is closely linked with the rise of British glam rock and its presence in popular culture.
