Old School Hip Hop
Old School Hip Hop, which kicked off in the late 1970s primarily in the Bronx, is where rhythm and rhyme first decided to throw a party together, usually involving a lot of breakdancing and questionable haircuts. It features simple beats, catchy hooks, and lyrics that often lean towards the mischievous, as MCs delighted in wordplay like kids in a sweet shop. This genre laid down the foundations for everything that followed, proving that a good lyric can be just as addictive as your favourite biscuit, especially if you're the sort to rap in front of the mirror.
