Blue Eyed Soul

Blue-eyed Soul emerged in the 1960s when Caucasian singers, with a bit of soul, realised that they could borrow elements from African American music without fear of criticism, or at least while hoping for a solid record deal. It’s characterised by smooth vocals, soulful melodies, and that ever-elusive ability to sound both heartfelt and just slightly more polite than their Black counterparts. Interestingly, this genre gave rise to a generation of singers who could genuinely convince you they felt every note whilst secretly perfecting their karaoke skills on a Saturday night.
