Der Ring des Nibelungen is a cycle of four epic music dramas by German composer Richard Wagner, premiered at the inaugural Bayreuth Festival in 1876. The cycle exemplifies Wagner's mature music-drama, characterised by continuous orchestral texture, extended harmonic language and pervasive use of leitmotifs, and it represents the culmination of his theatrical and compositional aims in 19th-century music history.
