Wolfgang Windgassen
Wolfgang Windgassen was a German operatic heldentenor born in Annaberg-Buchholz in 1914 who began his professional career in the 1930s specialising in German repertoire. Closely associated with the Bayreuth Festival from the 1950s, he was known for his performances in Wagnerian roles across major German opera houses and played a significant part in mid-20th-century interpretations of Wagner's works.
