Messiah is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin in 1742. The work combines Baroque choral and orchestral writing with solo arias and choruses to set biblical texts in a large-scale sacred narrative, and it has had a lasting influence on choral repertoire and performance practice.
