The TR-909 is a drum machine manufactured by Roland and released in 1983. It shaped the sound of house and techno, was used by producers in the Chicago and Detroit scenes including Frankie Knuckles and Derrick May, and changed drum programming so beats had more punch and attack for the dancefloor.
