The TR-808 is a drum machine manufactured by Roland and released in 1980. It uses analogue synthesis for its percussion voices and includes a 16-step programmable sequencer with tempo control and accent; its electronically generated drum timbres were used extensively in hip-hop and in electronic dance music such as house and techno.
