Rock And Roll
Rock and roll emerged in the 1950s in the United States, where it seemed like a good idea to combine rhythm and blues with country music whilst wearing leather jackets, just to irritate parents. Characterised by twanging guitars, boisterous vocals, and a beat that practically begs you to move, it's the audio equivalent of a rebellious teenager convincing you that breakfast should involve more than just cornflakes. Its cultural impact is so enormous that it practically invented teenage angst, making it the reason many parents started wearing earplugs at home.
