Lo-fi music emerged in the 1980s, primarily out of the bedroom recording scene where aspiring musicians realised that sometimes the charm of a song is in its imperfections, like a slightly dodgy DIY haircut. Characterised by its soft beats, warm vinyl crackles, and a pleasantly hazy quality that makes you feel like you're drifting through your own daydream, it's the perfect soundtrack for pretending to work whilst really just scrolling through cat videos.
