20th Century Classical

20th-Century Classical music emerged from the concert halls of Europe in the early 1900s, as composers decided that the old rules were far too stuffy and a good shake-up was in order. Characterised by dissonance, unconventional structures, and the occasional use of bizarre instruments that could make even a cat in a blender sound melodic, it’s like classical music threw a party and forgot to invite the key signature. This genre has produced a delightful array of sounds that can evoke everything from existential dread to what might be described as an auditory acid trip, all whilst leaving audiences slightly uncertain about whether to clap or run for their lives.
