Paul Creston was an American composer born in New York in 1906 who developed his career in the mid-20th century composing orchestral, chamber, choral and solo works within a broadly tonal, neoclassical idiom. His music is characterised by a strong rhythmic drive, clear melodic lines and frequent writing for percussion and wind ensembles, and he produced a substantial body of works that found use in American concert and pedagogical contexts throughout the 20th century.
