Slipknot are an American heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa, formed in 1995 and commonly associated with nu metal and alternative metal. They combine percussive, downtuned guitars, rapid drumming, samples and turntables with a distinctive masked, uniform stage image, and over their career their sound has shifted to incorporate more melodic and experimental elements while maintaining a focus on intensity and rhythm.
