Disturbed are an American heavy metal band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1994, emerging from the city's alternative and nu metal scenes. Their sound blends heavy metal, hard rock and alternative/nu metal elements with rhythmic, melodic vocals and electronic and orchestral textures, evolving from groove-driven, riff-focused early records to more expansive arrangements in later releases and reflecting trends in late 1990s and 2000s metal culture.
