Garbage are an American rock band formed in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1993, whose music blends alternative rock with electronic, industrial and pop influences. Their sound is characterised by layered production, electronic sampling and melodic hooks, and they have evolved across their career to incorporate denser electronic elements and varied pop arrangements while addressing themes of identity, relationships and technology within late-20th and early-21st-century alternative culture.
