Ari Up

Ari Up was a British punk and post‑punk singer who emerged in London in the mid‑1970s as the teenage frontwoman of the Slits, a punk band formed in 1976. Her high‑energy vocal delivery and embrace of reggae, dub and world‑music textures contributed to the Slits' experimental sound, and in later solo and collaborative work she continued to fuse punk attitudes with reggae and electronic elements while featuring in discussions of gender and genre within the punk and post‑punk scenes.
