Vladimir Golschmann was a French conductor born in Paris who established his career in France before moving to the United States and serving as music director of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra from 1931 to 1958. He championed French repertoire and contemporary composers, advocated modern and neoclassical works, and made recordings that introduced French and 20th-century music to American audiences.
