Symphony No. 11, "The Year 1905", is the eleventh symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed and first performed in 1957. Musically it is a large-scale, programme-driven orchestral work characterised by expansive melodies, vivid orchestration, dramatic contrasts and martial gestures, reflecting Shostakovich's engagement with historical and public themes in his post-Stalin, mid-to-late symphonic period.
