Sorochintsi Fair

Album by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky & Hermann Kuklin & Svetlana Zalizniak & Nadezhda Ryzhkova & Sergei Vialkov & Vitaly Petrov & Sergei Maistruk & Andrei Vylegzhanin & Chorus and Orchestra of Ekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre of Russia & Evgeny Brazhnik

Sorochintsi Fair is an unfinished opera by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky, composed between 1874 and 1880. The score draws on Russian folk-inspired melodies, modal harmonies and vivid stage characterisation within a comic-opera framework, and it occupies a peripheral but illustrative place in Mussorgsky's output as an example of his engagement with folk material and unconventional harmonic language.
