Winterreise, D. 911 is a song cycle by Austrian composer Franz Schubert, composed in 1827. Musically, the cycle is a collection of Lieder for voice and piano with sombre, spare piano textures, direct vocal lines and a harmonic language that emphasises bleakness and ambiguity, and it comes from Schubert's late period when he focused on inward, intensely expressive works.
