Symphony no. 10
Album by Gustav Mahler & Deryck Cooke & Eugene Ormandy & The Philadelphia Orchestra
Symphony No. 10 is the tenth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed in 1910 and left unfinished at his death in 1911. The music, characteristic of Mahler's late-Romantic idiom, employs dense orchestration, heightened chromaticism and abrupt contrasts that point toward early 20th-century modernist developments, and the work occupies a transitional position at the end of his career as an expression of his evolving harmonic language.
