Triple Concerto
Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Nicola Benedetti & Benjamin Grosvenor & Sheku Kanneh‐Mason & Santtu-Matias Rouvali & Philharmonia Orchestra
The Triple Concerto in C major, Op. 56, is a concerto for piano, violin and cello by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed in 1803–1804 and first performed in 1808. The work combines a concertante trio with orchestral writing in a Classical idiom that balances lyrical melodies, contrapuntal passages and dynamic contrasts, and it sits within Beethoven's middle period as one of his few multi-soloist concertos reflecting his expanding formal and harmonic ambitions.
