The Apostles is an oratorio by English composer Edward Elgar, completed and first performed in 1903. The work is a large-scale sacred choral and orchestral composition rooted in late-Romantic idioms, characterised by dense harmonies, expansive orchestration and recurring motifs, and it marks Elgar's deepening engagement with dramatic religious subjects between his earlier orchestral achievements and his later sacred works.
