Messiah is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin in 1742. The work combines Baroque choral and orchestral writing with alternating choruses, arias and recitatives to present a sacred narrative, and it occupies a prominent place in Handel's late output and in the choral repertoire.
