William Parker is an American double bassist, composer and bandleader from Worcester, Massachusetts, who began his career in the 1970s and became associated with New York's free jazz and avant-garde scenes. His music combines free improvisation and extended bass techniques with composed frameworks, often drawing on blues, folk and world music elements and incorporating spoken word and community-based projects, and he has worked as an organiser and educator within the experimental jazz community.
