Des Knaben Wunderhorn is a collection of songs by the Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed between 1887 and 1901. The settings draw on German folk poetry and combine Lieder-style vocal writing with orchestral colour, blending rustic melodies, irony and dramatic contrasts; themes and techniques from these songs reappear in Mahler's later symphonies and mark a key stage in his compositional development.
