Vocal music has been around since humans could hum a tune, with roots stretching back to ancient times when perhaps some chap thought, 'Why not sing instead of grunting?' It's characterised by the prominent use of the human voice, often a bit of a belch or a croon, depending on the mood, with lyrics that can range from profound to utterly nonsensical. This genre has also spawned countless subgenres, giving enthusiasts ample opportunity to argue over which type of singing is superior, which is a favourite pastime of many a pub-goer.
