Lachrimae or Seaven Teares
Album by John Dowland & Viola-da-Gamba-Quintett Der Schola Cantorum Basiliensis
Lachrimae, or Seaven Teares is a collection of instrumental consort pieces by English Renaissance composer John Dowland, published in 1604. Musically it features melancholic lute and viol consort writing in the late Renaissance style, presenting variations on a plaintive pavane-like theme and reflecting Elizabethan expressive modality, and it expanded Dowland's instrumental repertoire while influencing subsequent consort music of the period.
