Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by German composer Johannes Brahms, completed and premiered in 1876. The work is a large-scale Romantic symphony that uses dense orchestral textures with a strong brass and timpani presence and motifs that evoke earlier classical models, and it appeared after many years in which Brahms worked to establish his voice in the symphonic tradition.
