Symphonies no. 1 & 6

Symphonies No. 1 and No. 6 are orchestral works by Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich, composed in 1925 and 1939 respectively. The first, composed in his early career, displays youthful energy, crystalline textures and adventurous orchestration rooted in neoclassical influence, while the sixth adopts a more concentrated, episodic structure and darker, more introspective sonorities that reflect his maturation as a symphonic composer in the Soviet era.
