Le Grand Macabre is an opera by Hungarian composer György Ligeti, first premiered in 1978. The work combines avant-garde orchestral textures, grotesque theatrical elements and collage-like juxtapositions, representing a departure from Ligeti's earlier micropolyphonic approach and marking its place in late-20th-century opera.
