Symphonie No. 5
Album by Gustav Mahler & Hermann Scherchen & Orchestre national de France
Symphonie No. 5 is a symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed in 1901–1902 and first performed in 1904. The work employs a late-Romantic orchestral palette with dramatic brass fanfares, dense contrapuntal writing and expansive slow passages, and it marks a key transition in Mahler's output from his earlier song-symphony approach toward purely instrumental, large-scale symphonic architecture.
