The Astonishing is the thirteenth studio album by American progressive metal band Dream Theater, released in 2016. Musically it is a concept double album rooted in progressive metal that has long-form compositions, layered keyboards and orchestral textures with frequent shifts in tempo and time signature, and it came after a long-established period in the band's career when they expanded their compositional scope.
