The String Quartets

Album by Béla Bartók & Juilliard String Quartet

The String Quartets are a cycle of six string quartets by Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, composed between 1908 and 1939. They chart Bartók's evolution from late-Romantic idioms towards a distinctive modernist language, combining Central European folk-derived modes and rhythms with dense counterpoint, bold harmonies and extended string techniques, and occupy a central place in 20th-century chamber music.
