Symphony no. 4
Album by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky & London Symphony Orchestra & Antal Doráti
Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, completed in 1877–78 and first performed in 1878. The large-scale Romantic work in F minor is characterised by richly coloured orchestration, dramatic contrasts between turbulent and lyrical passages and a recurring 'fate' motif, and it occupies an important place in Tchaikovsky's symphonic output as he developed a more overtly dramatic and personal idiom.
First released: February 1962
