Das Marienleben is a song cycle by German composer Paul Hindemith, composed in 1923 and revised in 1948. The work blends late-Romantic vocal expressiveness with emerging neoclassical and contrapuntal techniques, using soprano with piano (and in some versions orchestra) to explore shifting harmonies, angular melodic lines and intricate rhythmic interplay, and is a transitional work in Hindemith's development from lyricism towards a more objective, polyphonic language.
