Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 4, 5, & 6
Album by Johann Sebastian Bach & Orchester der Wiener Staatsoper & Hermann Scherchen
The Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 4, 5 and 6 are three of the six concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach, compiled and presented in 1721. Musically, they exemplify Baroque concerto grosso writing—contrasting varied solo groups with a small ensemble through inventive counterpoint, rhythmic energy and distinctive instrumental colour, and they occupy an important place in Bach's instrumental output as a focus of his exploration of form and texture in the early 18th century.
