A Midsummer Night's Dream is a set of incidental music by German composer Felix Mendelssohn, composed in 1842 for performances of Shakespeare's play with the overture completed earlier in 1826. The score exemplifies Mendelssohn's early Romantic orchestral style through its bright orchestral colour, agile scherzo-like passages and lyrical wind and string writing, and it occupies a notable place in his output as a theatrical composition that builds on the earlier overture.
