Canzonette (1584) is a collection of secular canzonette by the Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi, published in 1584. Musically the pieces are short, light vocal works scored for three voices with primarily homophonic textures, clear melodic lines and straightforward rhythms typical of late Renaissance canzonette, and the collection represents an early stage in Monteverdi's output that foreshadows his later move toward the more expressive madrigal style and the early Baroque emphasis on text expression.
