Israel in Egypt is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1738 and first performed in 1739. The work is built largely around extensive choral writing and vivid word‑painting of biblical texts, and it represents Handel's movement away from Italian opera towards large-scale English oratorio in his later career.
