Die tote Stadt is an opera by Austrian composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold, premiered in 1920. The score features lush late-Romantic orchestration, lyrical operatic vocal writing and recurring thematic motifs that bridge his Viennese operatic roots with the cinematic orchestral language he later developed, and it represents a major early work in his career and in early 20th-century opera history.
